Christie’s is pleased to announce its much anticipated Latin American Sale on November 19 & 20. Offering an exceptional and diverse selection of over 240 lots, the sale features works by some of the region’s most sought after modern and contemporary artists. Leading the sale is a rare masterpiece by the Oaxacan painter Rufino Tamayo, Women Reaching for the Moon, an exemplary work from the 1940s which hails from the Cleveland Museum of Art and is sold to benefit the Museum’s future acquisitions.

Brazil’s dynamic art field is well represented with the brilliantly curated collection of Dr. Luiz Bethoven Do Amaral that spans such modernist icons as Emiliano Di Cavalcanti and Alfredo Volpi. The breath and range of Brazilian modern and contemporary work is further explored with superb examples by Sergio Camargo, Abraham Palatnik, and Beatriz Milhazes.

Equally compelling is the singular collection amassed by collectors, patrons and art dealers, Estela and Joaquín Shapiro by such innovative Mexican artists as Rodolfo Nieto, Ricardo Martínez, and Juan Soriano.

Other sale highlights include works by key modernist pioneers Wifredo Lam, Matta, and Joaquín Torres-García, as well vanguard artists Jesús Rafael Soto and Antonio Berni, along with contemporary masters Fernando Botero and Armando Morales.
